Abstract
The purpose of this study was to analyze the use of the out-of-pocket payment ceiling system for hospitalized patients in a nursing hospital and to plan ways to improve them. For this study, we analyzed data from the National Health Insurance DB of 652,358 subjects who have applied the out-of-pocket payment ceiling system for inpatient medical expenses. As a result of the analysis, Of the inpatients in nursing hospital who is applied the out-of-pocket payment ceiling system, 52.4% had mild symptoms rather than those requiring medical treatment. And these minor patients were 2-3 times more hospitalized than those who needed medical treatment, and the total medical expenditure was also higher. The results of this study suggest that the out-of-pocket payment ceiling system should be improved for minor patients. Also, a system should be established to reduce the long-term hospitalization of mild patients.
